The Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) is the governing body of American-style trapshooting, dedicated to promoting and regulating the sport worldwide.
Founded in 1900, the ATA supports the sport by setting rules, providing trophies and financial assistance, managing major events, and developing programs that increase participation — including National Trapshooting Day and the Satellite Grand Americans. The association includes life and annual members, though only life members may hold office.
The ATA is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of one elected delegate from each state and province. Delegates meet annually at the Grand American tournament to elect zone vice presidents, from whom the ATA President is selected. The Executive Committee appoints key administrative roles and oversees the Central Handicap Committee, which manages shooter classifications and yardage assignments.
Each year, ATA members take part in over 6,000 registered tournaments and shoot more than 55 million targets across nearly 1,000 affiliated clubs. The ATA headquarters and the Grand American World Trapshooting Tournament are located in Sparta, Illinois.
